Edcamp Putnam...Melrose 2018 :)

My first Edcamp was Edcamp St. Augustine in the spring of 2016, can I say life changing event.  That day was magical for me, completely transformed my conceptions of other educators, learning, sharing, and what I could do.  It blew me away.  The whole ride back I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.  I had never experience professional development like that before.  I had never walked away with such a vast amount of knowledge.  And up until that point I didn't really know what I was missing.  I had a taste of awesomeness and I needed more.

After that day I knew I needed to share that magical feeling with others, and bring back that magic I felt to my school.  Well today it happend Edcamp Putnam, Melrose style.  It was our third Edcamp Putnam, but this year it was in my house, my home.  And perhaps I might be a little bias, but BEST EDCAMP PUTNAM, yet.

Our first year we had 12 people attend, and most of those were ones we had convinced to help us put it on.  We've learned a lot over the years, part of that is going to other Edcamps and seeing how others are doing it.

Last year our attendance was better, mostly in part because we were able to do it earlier in the year.  This year the way spring break and Easter fell on the calendar sort of limited us to the date we picked.  Little did we know the day we picked just happened to be the day of the biggest festival for part of our county.

Regardless, it was an amazing event and a dream come true.

Try-a-box Strictly Briks

I had the opportunity to try Rubik's Briks from  Strictly Briks  and  Tryazon . What an amazing opportunity. These products were fun and engaging. They have different level of products for different ages and some were quite challenging. The boys and I had a fun time trying them at home. This was a huge hit. I especially enjoyed putting together the more challenging puzzles and mosaics. I brought these to school to see how some of my fast finishing fifth graders would like them. They were a hit there. Even some of the "easier" puzzles engaged my students. They had a fun time putting them  together.

Orb Slime Time thanks to Tryazon

We were chosen by Tryazon to host a Orb Slime Time Party.  These products were so much fun! The kids absolutely loved the Hyper Slimer, and I think we'll be getting another one (or two) in the near future so we can have a proper slime war.   https://hyperslimer.com/   It works like a squirt gun, but with slimey awesomeness.  The clean up is pretty easy too. The biggest hit though was the Elasti Plasti.  https://elastiplasti.com/   This has provided lots of fun and creative play with the kids.  Whether it is a contest to see who can blow the biggest bubble or the sheer joy of the noises it creates when putting it back in the jar, it is a HIT! My favorite was the  Braini Putti . I found it very therapeutic.  I liked how  malleable it was.  I think this would be a great putti to have in the classroom.  It clean up easy, it snaps, bounces, melts, and is overall just cool.  I think my students would enjoy it as a fidget option.

Melrose Rocks Continued

For Teacher Appreciation Week one of my students gave the most amazing gift, a decorated rock. He was a little upset, since it got a little banged up on the way to school, so he told me he'd make me another.  This rock changed me. It was the inspiration I needed to be the change. In our area there is a lot of hiding rocks for people to find.  It's a random act of kindness, spread the joy, heart lifting type of movement.  There are groups for different areas sharing the rocks they have hidden or found.  I knew that one of the schools in our district had a big event creating and hiding rocks in Palatka and I just thought the concept was so stinking cool. So my classes decorated rocks.  Well they decorated rocks based on things they learned in science class this year.  Then they had to describe what the rock was, why they created it, and provide another detail about that topic.  We posted this to our Seesaw accounts.  This allowed students to share within the class as
